It's midnight here in N. Houston (aka pretty much northern Mexico cartel land) and I just woke up to heavy gun fire.
Afterwards, I hear, what I can identify as, 2 V8 pick-up trucks with aftermarket exhaust (the most common vehicle in my neighborhood) haul ass in the same direction. There is a semi busy street next to my house where a little further down the road is a huge UPS warehouse. I heard a UPS big rig pass by (as they do all night) but then noticed it stopped a bit early. Soon after, it started to honk at something then over take perhaps something blocking the road. A couple minutes later, a car passed by, stopped, then started honking its horn as well. Finally to add to my half asleep thoughts, a womans starts screaming and crying very loud.
I hear police or body wagon sirens on the way. Me thinks someone just got gunned down either on the street or in their car and is blocking the road. Also, my dogs and the neighbors dogs are barking towards the back of my backyard. To keep in "Texas", I have my 30-30 and katanas here next to me and ready if someone tries to come in lol :]

Damn, that sounds scary! What 30-30 do you have? Keep it close, my friend! haha
My brother picked up a Marlin 30-30 about a year ago and he adores it.

Fuuuuuuck! Now that is scary. Once a while back, a couple days after a rainy new years day, we started to get a water leak in the dining room ceiling. We went in the attic and yup, there sat a bullet kind of like the one in your picture resting on the insulation. There was a hole in the roof from where in came through. If you're going to shoot on new years, aim at the ground.

Great gun! My bro's gun is awesome. A ton of fun to shoot!

I also thought the bullet landed there because someone shooted to the air.

I've got heavier guns then they do. I'll park in your driveway for the night, if necessary. Kinda long drive, but hey.

Get a shotgun, dude. It's far better for home defense than a rifle. You never know where a rifle bullet may stop. If you're looking for cheap, I suggest the Pardner . I have one and it's small enough to maneuver in tight spaces, but also less than $200 bucks used.
If you want a bit more utility, get a Remington 870 or a Mossberg 500. I've got the 870, and it's a fantastic gun. I plan on getting another one soon. That way you'd have 5 rounds available via Pump action instead of one.
You can also take it to the range and do some skeet shooting, which is a ton of fun. Just don't make it too tactical, and they'll let probably you in. :)

Holy shit... I thought you were going to say "and then I woke up" at the end of that.
Stay safe!

If you want a shotgun for home defense, expect to tear down whatever wall is behind whoever you shoot if you use it. And probably the floor underneath them too.

The UPS warehouse on Sweetwater? If so I know where you are, I went and picked up my wheels from there last week. Stay safe.

I've always wondered why people who shoot guns into the air don't just point down. Random lives have been taken by shooting up in the air.
(hoping you survived the night without having to defend your property in the most of American ways)

This thing happened to my dads friend, can't remember which car, I want to say an old school wagon of some sort, new years eve, way back in like the 80s, someone is shooting guns in the air. And what do you know, they come out in the morning and theres a bullet hole right there in the middle of his car roof.

Saca el cuete y tu cuerno de chivo. Time to take back your neighborhood.

right, i'd shoot at an ant farm lol :]
![]() 03/26/2014 at 10:04 |

Oh hell no. I'm in the Army and I see all sorts of crazy ricochets all the time at ranges, you would be surprised what a bullet can and can't go through, and how far that damn thing will travel. That's why ranges are usually completely blocked off and segregated, like indoor ranges, or waaaaaay out in the middle of nowhere like outdoor ones. Bullets are freaking crazy man
![]() 03/26/2014 at 10:04 |

yup, I live on the first street south of gulf bank. Cars and Coffee OPPO meet in April! I'll alert Blunion05, McChiken, and Pat Bateman! I'll bring my wagon

I've always had my Sega 12 gauge. sold it to get my wagon :] That Mossberg 500 is sooo badass! They are not bad right now on cheaperthandirt.com. Once I get some stuff out of the way, i'll definitely consider it. Lol my boss here at Volvo is a skeet instructor, yyyyeah I was hopeless :] It was fun though

yup, once the 5-0 got there I fell asleep :]
![]() 03/26/2014 at 10:17 |

yup, especially, like me, getting the cheaper reman ammo or cheaper stuff. They get squirrely at around 200 yrds. We get the good stuff to go sight at the range and hunt.

lol yup

Mossbergs are generally less expensive than Remingtons by about 50 bucks. I went with the Remington because it just fit me better than the Mossberg did. They're both excellent guns.
As for skeet, you should try trap or wobble, it's a bit easier. You also gotta keep at it!

yeah I know, I want to go back. My boss charges a bunch also, I should take advantage of the lessons :]

Actually, shotguns are pretty terrible at penetration, even with buckshot. They'll rip you up, but not that many pellets will go through the person.
If you use a rifle for home defense, that bullet could go through your target, through the wall behind them, through the exterior wall of your house, into your neighbors house and into your neighbor. That is why it's a terrible idea to use a rifle for home defense. When you shoot a rifle bullet, you've got to have a pretty good idea where that round will come to a stop. So unless you live somewhere where you'd need to hit a threat at 25 yards or more, a rifle will do more harm than good.
Furthermore, if you do need a rifle, a .30-30 is about on the top end of usable firepower. You'd want to use something with less recoil to allow for quick target acquisition in case a followup is necessary.
Pistol rounds equipped with FMJs have this problem too, but it's not as severe.

If you can get lessons for cheap, do it. You'll learn a lot. It's kind of like getting lessons from a professional driving instructor.
There's a range here in Northern VA that charges 6 bucks for a 25 clay game. It's such a great deal.

yeah that what it is here also lol. I'll ask my brother when he is free to got. I'm in the mood now :]

Katanas? Do you have some martial arts training? Just curious as I have been involved with that stuff for awhile.
![]() 03/26/2014 at 11:45 |

Basically what I'm trying to say is pistol with a hollow point is all you need haha. In a large enough caliber of course. But nothing works like a shotgun for intimidation.
![]() 03/26/2014 at 11:55 |

got them at a storage auction lol. They are hella sharp and i'm sure there is a proper technique on how to use them but I'm almost positive I wont miss my target if that ever needs to happen. A call to the paramedics and first aid will be performed if things ever escalate to arm slicing a mofo :]
![]() 03/26/2014 at 11:57 |

Yeah, unless you are fighting someone else with a sword, you don't need to know much...just swing and aim.
![]() 03/26/2014 at 12:03 |

well yeah :] But I hope it never happens either way

Back in 91 or 92 I lived in Galveston RIGHT behind the hotel Galvez. One summer night they had a rap concert at the auditorium just west of the hotel. All at once guns started blazing right under the window of my apartment and I levitated up and then down onto the floor and under my bed.
The next morning I found bullets and scarred walls on the ground floor bricks.
The following month I moved down to the Strand where all I had to deal with were drunk tourists and dick cops.

It's true, but the big down fall with pistols is they require practice and learned skill to use effectively. A shotgun does not require as much, which is a great thing for high stress situations.
Honestly though, a shotgun is the most multipurpose gun out there. You can get a shotgun and use it for home defense, hunting, sport, basically anything outside of long range target shooting.

I did it last weekend, and it was exactly what I needed. I got 28 out of 50 clays across two games of trap. It's such a great way to relieve stress and get outdoors.

SCREW THAT! This is why I do not live in a big city.. Our murder rate is measured in years between them, not how many per day.. You can walk around any time of the day or night and be safe, leave your car etc unlocked with the keys in the ignition.. its still there in the morning..
Be safe man, and get the hell out of that area..
